Liquid Handling Arm - Options and accessories

Tecan’s Liquid Handling arm can be used either with fixed tips or disposable tips.

Fixed Tip
The tips are made of stainless steel, in standard and low volume size, and are quite hydrophilic and porous. To increase the hydrophobicity, several coatings are used.

The outer tip coating is of either soft or hard Teflon (DMSO resistant). Two tip types designed to solve special carry over problems are available with either Teflon or ceramic inner coating. However, where no carry over is tolerable, the use of disposable tips with filters is strongly recommended.

Disposable Tips
Use only Tecan disposable tips. Conductive disposable tips are available with or without filter, in following volumes:

• 1000 μl
• 200 μl
• 10 μl (low volume disposable tip)

Liquid Level Detection Option
Each tip can individually detect the surface of a conductive liquid by measurement of changes in capacitance. Each channel has an individual liquid detection. Generally, detection of conductive liquids of several volumes is possible.


Pressure Monitored Pipetting™ (PMP) Option
This option improves the process stability and process quality by monitoring the pressure of the air gap between system liquid and sample during pipetting. A special software module in the application software controls the PMP option.

The PMP option will be installed on the LiHa and only works with disposable tips. The PMP option is factory installed when ordered with the instrument and for upgrading existing instruments, the PMP option can be installed at the user’s site by a Tecan authorized field service engineer.


DynamicFill™ Technology (Te-Fill)
The DynamicFill Technology is used to dispense and aspirate liquid into or from containers, e.g. when the liquid volumes are greater than the dispense volume of the diluter or when a large number of containers need to be filled by means of multiple dispense cycles.

This option consists mainly of a bidirectional pump and valves that connect the pump to the pipetting tubing of the instrument’s liquid system.
