Tecan Expert Bio

Introducing Tecan Expert Simon Fogarty

Hello, my name’s Simon and I am going to be one of the Tecan Experts at SLAS2016.

What’s my background?

Our team will be there to answer any questions you might have about automation in the lab. We’ve all got our specialism so I’ve put together this short ‘biography’ so you can see where my experience might fit in with your particular needs.

I started out in the UK, 30 years or so ago, working at GSK in its research labs. After five years I had an opportunity to work using automation in the High Throughput Screening (HTS) labs. It was a new area at the time and I leapt at the chance. My career then took me to a bio company where I set up their HTS and automation operation. After that, I moved to Canada where I worked in product management and application support for two automation companies.

What attracted me to Tecan?

Seven years ago I joined Tecan as its Director of Application Sciences. I head up a team of scientists and technical people working with a number of partners to put together the right solutions for our customers. I was attracted to the company by the strength of the brand, the product portfolio and the group they were asking me to set up.

How can I help you at SLAS2016?

With over 30 years in the business, most of it involved in lab automation, I can help with any challenges around the automation of assays. There are many questions you may want to ask and I’d like to be able to shed new light on this area – perhaps helping you to consider ways of working with robotics you haven’t thought of. Whether you’re completely new to the area or want to expand your knowledge, I’d be happy to help.

Do I have an area of expertise?

Within the application sciences area my specialist subject would be drug discovery. I focus a lot on customers in pharma and biotec who are involved in that area of research.

I look forward very much to meeting you, discussing how to solve your challenges and helping you to be empowered by Tecan.
