With this article, one will learn how to create a proper backup for their system in case they lose everything.
Introduction
This article provides a step-by-step guide on creating a backup of EVOware®'s essential files, which is crucial for preventing data loss.
Tools for Creating Backups in EVOware®
To ensure a comprehensive understanding of the backup process, let's first summarize the tools we'll use and the specific data we aim to protect. This is particularly important when dealing with Windows updates or computer changes that may impact the application.
To create an effective backup, we rely on four essential tools:
EVOTransfer Tool
The EVOTransfer Tool generates a special transfer file (.etz image file) that includes all files and data used by drivers, databases, and log files on the instrument. In the event of data loss, corruption, or accidental deletion, this backup allows for data restoration. It is advisable to perform this backup once the entire application is properly set up and no further changes are anticipated. Note that this backup can only be restored to the same version of Windows. Export/Import Tool
The Export/Import Tool creates an. exd file that encompasses all processes, scripts, vectors, carriers, labware, and liquid class definitions. This tool saves everything script-related (for EVOware Standard), enabling quick importation of processes and scripts without the need for rewriting. It facilitates the transfer of processes and scripts from one Freedom EVO PC to another. Note that the Export may not contain sufficient information if EVOware Plus processes are being used.
EVOware Configuration Backup
Backing up the EVOware configuration is essential to protect the database, which includes definitions for carriers, worktables, configuration settings, and more. However, this backup does not cover driver files (such as Te-LiHa.ini), the software itself, or user management settings.
Audit Arch Tool
The Audit Arch Tool can automatically back up certain parameters or files. It is primarily designed for backing up or archiving log files but can also be used to move, copy, or delete files based on criteria defined in the software. For more details, please refer to the linked article.
By following these four steps, customers can back up critical files to safeguard against data or configuration loss.
Alternative Backup Option
Another option is to copy the entire Tecan folder located at C:\ProgramData\Tecan\. This folder contains all definitions, making it a comprehensive backup solution. This setup should be done after the entire application is properly configured.
Recommendation
We highly recommend using an external storage device to securely store all backups.
