Introspect installation and instrument registration

This articles summarizes how to install Introspect and register instrument.

To be able to register an instrument to IntrospectTM make sure that the latest IoT Client is installed. It requires IoT Client v2.8. You might need to update the IoT Client, please find here the link to download the IoT Client.

Download the IoT Client – Zip – File, extract all files and start the Setup with local Windows administrator rights. The setup runs the installation program to install the IoT Client.

Fill in the fields in the registration window as displayed starting at the top by selecting the platform type and size. Fields marked with an * are required for the registration, the proxy settings and Custom SSL certificate are optional and depend on your IT infrastructure settings. Once all required fields are entered, click Register. There will be a message after the registration was successful. The IoT client icon in the tray icon will turn green after approx.1 minute and starts parsing data.

The next step will be to assign the instruments to an organization and to users, which is needed that you are able to see the data in Introspect.

Setting up the organization

When the instrument(s) are registered successfully, they have to be assigned to users in the Organization Management. For that there must be at minimum one structure layer assigned with instruments and users.

In the section Organization Management you can find the instructions for setting up the organizations.

Firewall

If no data is sent after the installation and set up have been completed, you might need to check the firewall settings. The firewall must allow data to be sent using WebSockets, and the URLs in the table below must be accessible.

URL Port Protocol IP
https://login.tecan.com/* 443 TCP  104.19.152.19 / 104.19.153.19
https://digital.tecan.com/* 443 TCP  13.107.246.60 / 13.107.213.60
https://tecan-iot-hub-prod.azure-devices.net/* 443 TCP  13.69.71.14

Activate WebSocket

Depending on the settings on the local network, WebSockets might be blocked. This is most likely due to explicit blocking by the local IT set-up. If that’s the case, they should be activated for the above listed URLs. If there are no specific local configurations to block WebSockets, they are usually activated by default.

Proxy server

In case you manage your internet access via a proxy server, the settings can be detected automatically. Otherwise, the address and port number can be set manually during the registration of the IoT client.

If the proxy server requires authentication, IoT client provides the ability to configure username and password.
