2. Description of Issue:

Users are not able to properly use SparkControl and Spark Control Magellan™ after a Windows update. We identified the following symptoms:

  • SparkControl Dashboard fails to start and the following error pops up: Windows.Markup.XamlParseException.
  • During the measurement with Method Editor the software shuts down, but the instrument is continuing the measurement (Microsoft Excel opens)

3. Potential solutions:

Please contact your responsible IT department for support on the following procedures. Administrator rights are required.

  1. Update Windows to Windows 10 22H2. With this new update, Windows has solved the problem.
  2. Compatibility workaround provided by Microsoft: If Windows Version 21H2 is installed, a Microsoft compatibility workaround can be installed: KB5022083 Change in how WPF-based applications render XPS documents - Microsoft Support

Note: After executing KB5022083 we recommend a restart of the affected computer.

  3. Uninstall the Windows update:

If Windows update or an installation of KB5022083 is not possible in the affected organization, users are advised to assess the impact of CVE 2022 41089 with their IT/IT security officer if an uninstallation of the update is possible or not.

4. Further Recommendation

If the issue cannot be resolved:

  • Note your instrument serial number.
  • Create a service request and include the serial number.
