Learn how to import a sample ID list and custom format files to your method or workspace file in Magellan
Introduction
Sample ID lists that do not conform with the supported file types have to be imported as custom format files (*.*).
We will show you how to define a custom format file import, to teach Magellan the correct data interpretation.

- Define the plate type by entering the number of rows and columns (8 x 12 for 96 well microplates).
- File format:
- Enter the file extension (e.g. .csv, .tsv, .txt)
- If the file has a checksum, Magellan can investigate it, when the box is ticked.
- Select the column separator used in your sample ID list.
- Define in which line the Sample ID list starts. For example, when a title or description is entered in the first line, start with line 2.

- In numbers vertical direction 1=A1, 2= B1,….
- In numbers horizontal direction 1=A1, 2=A2,…
- Select a sample ID. It's possible to import up to three different sample ID's.
- If a sample ID list is imported from a pipetting software, the pipetting status can be displayed.
- Select Dilution, if the position contains a dilution factor.
- Select Concentration, if the position contains a concentration.
- Select Ignore, if you want to skip information on a position.
