TECAN among the top three in the 1999 European Company of the Year Awards

Zurich/Hombrechtikon, 22 June 1999 - The Tecan Group, a leader in laboratory automation for diagnostics and life science, has been ranked among the top three most successful companies in Europe, along with Cap Gemini and Telecom Italia. The report, carried out by an independent jury commissioned by the Association of European Business Press (EBP), placed the Hombrechtikon-based Tecan Group firmly among the top three on its short list for the 1999 European Company of the Year. The complex system used to assess the companies is based on sales, profits and payroll figures over the past three years. Gucci, Psion, SAP and BMW were among the winners in previous years and this year the Award went to Cap Gemini.

Emile C. Sutcliffe, Tecan's CEO, said, "We are proud to rank among the three most successful companies in Europe and as the most successful in our business. The Award confirms that Tecan is a leader on both the technical and business fronts. We are committed to making every possible efford to expand our position further." The Association of European Business Press comprises the 40 most important business publications in Europe, among them the Financial Times, the Handelsblatt, Les Echos, Il Sole 24 Ore and Dagens Industri. Switzerland is represented by the Handelszeitung.
