Tecan Automation Laboratory opens at University of Tokyo’s RCAST

Maennedorf, Switzerland, February 19, 2020
– Tecan Japan Co., Ltd. has partnered with the University of Tokyo’s Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST) to create the Tecan Automation Laboratory. The first laboratory to adopt naming rights at RCAST, this facility is equipped with state-of-the-art automated liquid handling and multimode reader technologies – including a Fluent® Automation Workstation, a Spark® Cyto multimode plate reader and D300e Digital Dispenser – to enhance the efficiency of life science research and improve the research environment within the center.

This partnership is part of an RCAST initiative to establish and expand its outstanding international research facilities for young researchers, such as UTokyo-Research Alliance for Information and Life Sciences (UTokyo-RAILS) and the Laboratory Automation Organization (CLARA). By constructing an open laboratory and developing systems to automate and increase the efficiency of experiments, RCAST aims to hire and foster young independent research leaders in life sciences and informatics. This will contribute to the University of Tokyo 2020 Vision of mutual association of excellence and diversity, and promote emergent research.

Dr Nozomu Yachie, Associate Professor of RCAST said “Automation and AI technologies have been rapidly increasing their importance for advanced scientific measurements and large-scale experiments. This alliance with Tecan Japan will create an environment where academia can fully utilize cutting-edge automation equipment, further accelerating the cycle of knowledge exploration and technological development in biomedical chemistry here at RCAST. We are delighted with this partnership.”

"We are very honored to open the Tecan Automation Laboratory at RCAST,” commented Dr Hirotaka Ito, representative director of Tecan Japan. “This facility will help RCAST researchers engaged in advanced discoveries to improve experimental efficiency and disseminate their inventive research results to the world using our latest detection devices and liquid handling automation systems. This partnership also provides Tecan with an excellent opportunity to explore novel research applications and grasp the needs for the next generation of researchers – it’s a mutually beneficial relationship."
