Männedorf/Zurich, June 30, 2000 – TECAN, a leading global provider of complete solutions for the life sciences industry, today laid the foundation stone of its future headquarters in Männedorf. The new building, which will be ready in March 2001, also lays the foundation for Tecan’s continued worldwide growth. Purpose designed and architecturally advanced, the building provides the space for an increase in staff over the next few years from the current 180 employees in Switzerland to 300.

Tecan is offering jobs with a future in attractive surroundings. With its strong position in the life-sciences sector, Tecan is ideally equipped to take advantage of a market growing an average 30% a year.

“We are going through a fascinating phase in the history of our company, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year”, says Dr Emile C. Sutcliffe, Tecan’s CEO. “The decoding and sequencing of the 100,000 genes of the human genotype within the Human Genome Project is almost complete. Our clients in different areas of research are turning to Tecan’s products and solutions and are applying our automated process technology to speed up the identification of unknown genes and to discover their role. We are proud to be able to make a contribution to an exciting project that will lead to the rapid development of new drugs.”

The vice-president of Männedorf’s communal council, Heidi Kempin expressed satisfaction at Tecan’s choice of location. “The determination of all concerned to meet extraordinary challenges is the key to the successful establishment in our region of enterprises of the future,” she said at the foundation ceremony.
