Tecan to host its second annual scientific symposium - ‘Biologics: from benchtop to production’

Following last year’s hugely successful inaugural symposium, Tecan is eagerly looking forward to hosting its second  scientific symposium. The annual scientific forum offers an intimate opportunity for leading scientists and a varied range of Tecan users to meet and discuss emerging scientific issues in connection with Tecan’s fields of expertise.

The first Tecan symposium was held in September 2007 in Erlenbach, Zürich, Switzerland, focusing on the subject of systems biology, and was chaired and jointly organized by Alan Sawyer, director of the Monash Antibody Technologies Facility in Australia. Alan will return in 2008 to present his valued input on high throughput monoclonal antibody production.

The 2008 symposium will be held from September 16 -19, 2008 in Oerlikon, Zürich, Switzerland and is entitled: ‘Biologics: from benchtop to production.’ It will cover the rapidly growing areas of biotherapeutics, stem cell research and regenerative medicine. The formal program is organized into four sessions held over two days of talks:

  • advances and opportunities in stem cells
  • from cells to therapy
  • high throughput applications
  • optimization and production of therapeutic proteins and antibodies.

Leading scientists from around the world, at the forefront of their respective fields, will present on various cutting-edge initiatives in research and application of biologics, followed by open, in-depth discussions with the invited audience.

The third day offers a split program. Most attendees will participate in a series of presentations and discussions focusing on storage and management of biological samples. This portion of the program will move to Oberdiessbach, Switzerland; home of Tecan’s REMP Business Unit. A few other guests will remain in Zurich and participate in a series of round-table panel discussions on the future of technology and automation in bioprocessing, stem cells, and regenerative medicine.

With over three dozen luminaries already confirmed to attend, this year’s meeting promises to be another successful event. More information on the program is available at www.tecan.com/symposium2008.

Registration Information: Due to space restrictions, attendance is limited to invited guests. However, for invited guests, Tecan covers costs of the seminar, accommodation, and food & beverages.
